This week, the planet was literally submerged. One flood shocked local residents because it occurred in a highly unusual place. Today, we'll also explain why such unprecedented rainfall and powerful floods are happening and answer the question of how they can be stopped. All the details are in the weekly review of climate disasters that took place on the planet from August 21 to 27.Show more
These unprecedented rains and powerful floods are caused by the record heating of the ocean and atmosphere. The ocean plays a crucial role in the planet's thermoregulation: it transfers excess heat from the Earth's interior to the atmosphere and then into space. However, due to pollution from hydrocarbons, the ocean's thermal conductivity has been significantly disrupted. An overheated ocean evaporates more moisture, and the warmer atmosphere can hold onto it. As a result, scientists are recording a significant increase in atmospheric moisture content.
People in different countries are experiencing this through extreme downpours and subsequent floods, which we highlight in our weekly reviews.
This raises the question: can anything be done about it? Yes, it can. Currently, there is a technology in the world that can help save millions of lives. Detailed information is available in the documentary film "Water from Air | The Path to Saving Humanity":
